Dive into Success: Anjana Suresh proves her mettle in swimming
The young girl bagged four gold medals at a state-level championship

Anjana Suresh, a grade IV student of Apeejay Svran Global School in Faridabad Sector 21-D, has emerged as a remarkable talent in the realm of swimming. With her recent triumph at a state-level championship, where she secured an impressive four gold medals, Anjana has proven herself as a champion. Her dedication to her sport, combined with her academic excellence, sets her apart as a shining example of determination and talent. Read on to know more about this talented achiever.
A Passion for Swimming
Anjana Suresh displayed a natural affinity for the water. Her passion for swimming was evident as she glided effortlessly through the pool, displaying impressive technique and speed. Recognising her potential, Anjana’s parents encouraged her to pursue the sport.
According to her father, Mr Suresh Krishnaswami, Associate General Manager at HCL Technologies Limited, “My daughter has been training since May 2022. Initially, she was learning to swim at a school near to our residence in Faridabad. Soon, we decided to enroll her at a prestigious academy based in Palwal. Now she attends training morning and evening there for the entire week. Mr KN Mishra is her coach. He has been associated with the field since the 1980s.”

At the Haryana State Swimming Championship held recently in HL City Bahadurgarh, Anjana bagged four gold medals in four categories namely, 50 meter breaststroke, 200 meter freestyle, 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter freestyle. In addition to this, she also won a silver in the butterfly 50 meter. She was declared an individual champion (IC) / best swimmer in her group and was awarded a trophy by Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, Member of the Lok Sabha.
Rigorous Training and Dedication
To excel in any sport, rigorous training is essential and Anjana understands this principle well. She devotes countless hours to her training, embracing a disciplined routine that includes swimming sessions, strength training, and conditioning exercises. Anjana’s commitment to perfecting her craft is commendable, as she pushes herself to her limits day after day. She says, “I enjoy swimming very much. I hope to continue doing it. Michael Phelps, the American swimmer, inspires me.” The nine-year-old follows a strict and healthy diet and avoids all kinds of junk food. Throughout the summer vacations, she was working towards achieving her targets.
Balancing Academics and Athletics
Anjana’s achievements extend beyond the swimming pool. Despite her demanding training schedule, she manages to maintain a good academic record. Her exceptional ability to balance her studies with her athletic pursuits is a testament to her strong work ethic and time management skills. The student serves as an inspiration to her peers, proving that with determination and focus, one can excel in both academics and sports.
Future Aspirations
With her recent success at the state-level championship, Anjana’s future in swimming looks promising. Her impressive performance has not only garnered attention within her school but also among swimming enthusiasts and coaches. Anjana dreams of representing her state and country in national and international competitions. Her dedication and talent make her a strong contender to achieve these goals. “In a year’s time, Anjana has done well. As far as her future endeavours are concerned, we are working towards her timing so she is able to qualify for future competitions. Another 2-3 years of rigorous practice will have her ready to compete with ace swimmers,” says the proud father.
Advising fellow parents, Mr Krishnaswami says, “To keep a child’s interest sustained in one sport is necessary. So, once you have identified the abilities of your child, support him/her by providing a distinguished practitioner in the field.”
