‘The MBA programme is helping me build a holistic business perspective’

Anmol Lalwani is a Postgraduate Diploma student at Apeejay School of Management (ASM), Dwarka, Delhi. She is currently interning at HDFC Bank. In a quick interview, she mentions how her course is effectively preparing all students for the industry and helping them understand the world of finances and numbers. Read edited excerpts: 

What got you interested in finance?

I got interested in numbers, accounting and economic terms from academics. It was there that I learned about business finance management, money flow mechanism, financial data analysis, risk evaluation and projection of future approach. Also, the faculty at ASM guides one really well by familiarising each student with the current scenario and trends in the finance sector. This approach is helping learners to upgrade their skills effectively. 

Is the course at ASM doing justice to your aspirations?

ASM provides a structured curriculum that covers a wide range of finance-related topics such as financial markets, investments, corporate finance, financial analysis, and risk management. Through coursework, students gain a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge.

ASM also provides access to the experienced faculty and facilitates networking opportunities by organising career workshops, guest lectures, and alumni events. These platforms allow students to connect with professionals and potential employers in the finance industry, expand their professional network, and gain exposure to different career paths and opportunities.

Additionally, the institute provides a Summer Internship Program, which is helpful in applying classroom knowledge in real-world settings, gaining practical skills and developing a better understanding of the finance industry.

Where do we see you in the next five years?

I aspire to advance my career within the current organisation or the banking industry. This may include seeking promotions to higher-level positions such as financial manager, investment analyst or portfolio manager with increased responsibilities and influence.

Is the course providing industry connection?

ASM conducts industry visits to help students gain insights into current trends, emerging technologies and innovative practices of businesses and industries. Like I mentioned, it does provide opportunities for internships and valuable industrial experience, which facilitates real-world business challenges and establishes connections with professionals in their field of interest.

Lastly, one major life lesson?

One major learning from my ASM PGDM programme is the development of a holistic business perspective. This programme typically provides a broad understanding of various business functions, including finance, marketing, operations, strategy, and human resources. Through coursework, case studies, and group projects, students gain insights into the interconnectedness of different business areas and how decisions in one area can impact the overall organisation. This holistic perspective enables graduates to make more informed, strategic decisions and understand the implications across different aspects of a business.
