The P.G. Department of Multimedia at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, organised ‘Abhivyakti: Mic On | Fear Off’ , offering students an engaging platform to express themselves, overcome stage fright and showcase their creative abilities. With a diverse mix of performances and enthusiastic participation, the event celebrated artistic expression, individuality and the confidence to perform before an audience.
Featuring 26 entries, the event brought together students with varied interests and talents. The performances included storytelling, stand-up comedy, poetry, vocal and instrumental music, mimicry and magic tricks, creating an entertaining showcase of creativity and versatility. Each performance offered participants an opportunity to step beyond their comfort zones, explore their artistic potential and communicate with greater confidence.
Adding a digital dimension to the programme, a Reel Making competition was also organised. The initiative encouraged students to capture the highlights and spirit of the event through engaging short-form video content, allowing them to combine creativity with their multimedia skills.

The performances were assessed by a distinguished panel of judges comprising Dr Raman Dhadra from the Department of Punjabi, Mr Amandeep Singh from the Department of Theatre, Dr Ranjana from the Department of Dance, and Dr Seema Sharma from the Department of Music Instrumental. Their expertise across different artistic disciplines brought a diverse perspective to the evaluation of the participants.
In the main competition, Dhurvpreet Singh, a BBA Semester III student, secured first prize for his mimicry performance. Aarav, a B.Voc. Sound Technology Semester I student, won second prize for vocal music, while Lovish Arora, a B.Com. Semester I student, secured third prize for poetry. The consolation prizes went to Amandeep Kaur for her magic tricks and Sahil Chawla, a first-semester M.Voc. E-Commerce student, for poetry.
The Reel Making competition also highlighted the students’ digital storytelling abilities. Karan Sondhi, a B.Design Multimedia Semester III student, won the prize for creatively capturing the energy and spirit of the event through a reel.

Principal Dr Neerja Dhingra appreciated the students for their enthusiastic participation, originality and confidence. She emphasised the importance of providing learners with opportunities to express themselves freely, discover their strengths and develop the confidence to perform in front of an audience. Such platforms, she noted, contribute to students’ artistic growth while strengthening their communication and presentation skills.
She also commended the efforts of the event organisers, Mr Ankit Goel and Ms Sonali Beri, for creating an encouraging environment where students could experiment with different forms of expression and overcome their inhibitions.

Through ‘Abhivyakti: Mic On | Fear Off’, the P.G. Department of Multimedia reinforced the value of experiential learning beyond the classroom. The event celebrated not only artistic talent but also the courage to step forward, find one’s voice and embrace new creative possibilities.
