For Nidhi Panwar Thapar, an alumna of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park (batch of 1991), school was never just a place of learning. It was a second home that nurtured her confidence, curiosity, and character. Today, as Vice-President Academics at Ryan Edunation Services Pvt Ltd, she heads academics for a large network of schools across India. Looking back, she credits Apeejay for laying the foundation of her professional and personal success.
Know more..
Tell us about your years at Apeejay School.
I joined the school Class I and completed my entire schooling there. Those 12 years were among the most enriching years of my life. I participated in almost everything the school had to offer, be it sports, debates, NCC, Interact Club, cultural activities, and or Inter-school competitions. I was a member of the school volleyball team and actively represented the school in English and Hindi debating competitions, including national-level events.
What are your fondest memories of school?
It is difficult to point to one specific memory because my entire school experience was special. The teachers were incredibly supportive, and I always felt valued and encouraged. Even today, I remain in touch with several of them. My closest friends are still my school friends. That says a lot about the bonds we built at Apeejay. The school felt like an extended family, and that sense of belonging remains with me even today.
How did the school influence your personality and outlook towards life?
Absolutely and profoundly. After my parents, if there is one institution that has shaped who I am, it is Apeejay School. The school provided opportunities to explore every dimension of my personality. Whether it was sports, leadership activities, public speaking, or academics, there was always encouragement to step forward and participate. Those experiences taught me confidence, resilience, teamwork, and discipline. The qualities that continue to guide me in my professional journey.
Tell us about your professional journey.
During my years at Apeejay School, I pursued Science with Computers in Classes XI and XII. While engineering was a popular choice among science students, I was certain that my passion lay in literature, which led me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in English Honours. Interestingly, teaching was not a planned career choice. Being married to an Army officer meant frequent relocations between cities and towns, and I began my professional journey as a teacher before progressing to coordinator, principal, and, eventually, academic leadership roles. Working across Army and private schools exposed me to diverse educational environments and perspectives. What started as a career by chance gradually became my passion, ultimately leading me to head academics as Vice-president Academics at Ryan Edunation Services Pvt. Ltd.
What message would you like to share with current students?
Believe in yourself. Too often, we focus on what might go wrong rather than what we can achieve. Instead of worrying about limitations, focus on possibilities and growth. I still draw inspiration from the school’s motto, Soaring High is My Nature. Have faith in your abilities, embrace challenges, and remain committed to your goals. I often tell my teachers now that I did not become a teacher by choice; I became one by chance. But over the years, it evolved into my greatest passion and purpose. Success is not about avoiding difficulties; it is about learning and growing through them.
What are your thoughts on AI and the future of education?
AI is undoubtedly transforming education. However, it should be used as a tool, not as a substitute for original thinking. Technology can support learning, research, and creativity, but students must continue to develop their own analytical and cognitive abilities. The future belongs to those who can combine technological proficiency with critical thinking, creativity, and strong character.
In three words, how would you describe your school experience?
Wholesome. Enriching. Memorable. And perhaps precious.
