Inspired by watching her father, a licensed draftsman, transform ideas into building plans, Priyanka Upadhyay discovered her passion for architecture in Class 9. Having earned the 4th rank in the AKTU B.Arch merit list, the Apeejay Institute of Technology – School of Architecture and Planning (AIT-SAP), Greater Noida, graduate reflects on how quality mentorship, consistent hard work, and a strong focus on practical learning shaped her journey into a confident, future-ready architect. Read edited excerpts:

Why did you choose AIT-SAP for your graduation?

I chose Apeejay Institute of Technology – School of Architecture and Planning because it is recognized as one of the leading architecture colleges in the Delhi-NCR region. I had also interacted with one of my school seniors who was already studying there, and hearing about the quality of education, supportive faculty, and learning environment gave me confidence that it would be the right place to build my career.

How did you feel as you stood out as one of the toppers?

Securing the 4th rank in the AKTU merit list was a very proud and satisfying moment for me. It felt rewarding to see that my consistent hard work over the last five years had paid off.

More than being an achievement, it has motivated me to work even harder. It has increased my confidence and encouraged me to continue learning, improving my skills, and contributing meaningfully to the field of architecture.

What have been your learning aspirations as an architect student from Apeejay?

As an architecture student, my aspiration has always been to become a well-rounded architect who can combine creativity with practical problem-solving. During my time at Apeejay, I focused on strengthening my design thinking, technical knowledge, software skills, and understanding of construction practices.

How did the faculty help you achieve your goals?

The faculty at Apeejay played a significant role in my journey. They were always approachable and encouraged us to think critically rather than simply follow instructions

What would you like to specialise in architecture?

I believe an architect should not only be good at designing but should also have a strong understanding of civil construction and execution. Knowing how buildings are actually constructed helps in creating designs that are practical, economical, and easier to execute.

What are your future aspirations?

My future aspiration is to become a skilled architect who designs spaces that are functional, sustainable, and meaningful for people. In the coming years, I want to gain practical experience by working on diverse projects, learning from experienced professionals, and continuously improving my technical and management skills.
