To deepen students’ conceptual understanding and make learning more impactful, Apeejay School, Model Town organised a dynamic experiential learning session for students of Grade III. The activity was designed around the Environmental Studies (EVS) chapter “Water for Life” and aimed to introduce young learners to the three states of water – solid, liquid, and gas.
Students actively participated in this hands-on science experiment where they observed ice cubes melting into water, and later watched water evaporate into steam when heated. These simple yet powerful demonstrations helped explain scientific processes such as melting, boiling, and evaporation, allowing students to see science in action.
Fostering Curiosity through Experiential Learning

The session exemplified the school’s commitment to experiential education, which goes beyond theoretical instruction. Watching water transform across its three states helped students grasp the concept of matter and its physical changes with clarity. More than just a lesson, the activity sparked wonder, excitement, and thoughtful questioning among the budding learners.
Educators believe such learning formats enable children to not only absorb information but to understand the ‘how’ and ‘why’ behind it. Encouraging exploration from an early age lays a strong foundation for scientific thinking and reasoning skills.
Encouraging Active Participation and Collaboration
During the activity, students were encouraged to observe, discuss, and share their findings with peers. This not only nurtured a sense of teamwork but also strengthened their communication skills. The classroom transformed into a mini-laboratory, buzzing with enthusiasm as each child became a curious young scientist.
By working together in groups, the children learned to listen to different perspectives, support each other’s learning, and celebrate discoveries collectively instilling values of collaboration and shared success.

Building Future-Ready Thinkers
Apeejay School, Model Town continuously strives to deliver a holistic educational experience. Through creative teaching strategies like this EVS activity, the school reinforces core academic concepts while also nurturing 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and observation.
