Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a deep-dive conversation on the Lex Fridman Podcast, highlighted India’s critical role in artificial intelligence, rapid technological advancements, and its growing influence in space exploration and innovation.
During the two-and-a-half-hour discussion, PM Modi asserted that AI development cannot be complete without India. No matter what the world does with AI, it will remain incomplete without India, he had said emphasising the country’s vast talent pool as a driving force in AI and technology.
Drawing parallels to India’s record-breaking 5G rollout, he noted that despite being perceived as a late entrant, India swiftly became the fastest nation to deploy 5G networks. Modi also shared insights from a US tech executive who remarked that while engineering job openings in the US barely fill a room, in India, even a football field would not suffice.
Highlighting the dominance of Indian-origin CEOs in global tech, including Sundar Pichai (Google) and Satya Nadella (Microsoft), Modi attributed their success to India’s cultural values of teamwork and leadership. He stressed that AI is ultimately powered by human intelligence, an area where India excels.
The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s space sector, citing the cost-effective Chandrayaan mission and the rapid rise of over 200 private space-tech firms. He positioned India as a preferred partner for global collaborations.
Addressing concerns about AI replacing humans, Modi dismissed fears of a technology-vs-humanity conflict, asserting that AI will push humanity to reflect on what it truly means to be human. He called for global cooperation in AI, urging nations to work together to harness its potential for the greater good.
