Events like Science Week are essential for IB students because they align with the core values and educational philosophy of the IB program. These events foster the development of key learner profile traits, which are central to the IB framework. For the same, Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park held a science week for its students.
The week began with an inspiring guest speaker session on Day 1, designed for both PYP and MYP students. The 40-minute presentation underscored the importance of curiosity and knowledge in the scientific realm, aligning with the IB learner profile trait of being knowledgeable. The speaker encouraged students to embrace the wonders of science and cultivate a mindset driven by inquiry and discovery.
On Day 2, the focus shifted to hands-on activities, offering students from various PYP levels a range of engaging, inquiry-based experiences. The activities, covering biology, chemistry, and physics themes, provided students with practical opportunities to explore scientific concepts. PYP 1-3 students also enjoyed a visit to the science museum, further expanding their understanding through real-world applications. The day’s events, lasting approximately one hour, emphasised the development of the Inquirer trait as students actively engaged in experiments and investigations.

Day 3 brought creativity to the forefront, as students explored the intersection of science and art. Younger students participated in chromatography experiments using flowers, while older students visited the National Science Museum and Museum of Illusions. A particularly engaging moment occurred when MYP 4 students presented “The Dance of the Atom,” a skit that creatively blended science with performance. This half-day event encouraged students to embody the Communicator trait, showcasing their ability to share knowledge through artistic expression.

“Planning Science Week was a collaborative effort, aligning activities with the IB framework to promote inquiry, creativity, and interdisciplinary learning. We tailored events for different age groups, such as hands-on experiments for PYP students and thematic skits and field trips for MYP students. Emphasising experiential learning, activities like chromatography and museum visits allowed students to connect theory with real-world applications. Follow-up discussions reinforced scientific concepts. By using diverse teaching methods and collaborative projects, I ensured students not only grasped scientific principles but also developed critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills aligned with IB learner profiles.” shared Ms Richa Tiwari, MYP & DP Chemistry Facilitator & Head of Department, Science.
The final day of Science Week featured the Individual Investigation Exhibit, a two-hour showcase where both PYP and MYP students presented their innovative projects. This culminating event allowed students to demonstrate their creativity and scientific understanding, highlighting the IB values of being Balanced and Reflective as they shared their discoveries and insights.

Overall, Science Week fostered a spirit of interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, and collaboration. Through these engaging activities, students not only deepened their scientific knowledge but also developed essential skills for lifelong learning and curiosity.
