Staying calm is essential for effective learning and exam performance. Though some tension and stress are unavoidable during such times, adopting a holistic approach that encompasses mental and physical well-being, along with effective study strategies, can help you navigate the exams more smoothly. This is what Ashok Tiwari advises his sons Bhavya and Anmol who are studying in class XII and VIII respectively at Apeejay School, Noida.
Excerpts from the interview
How is your son coping with the upcoming boards?
Since it is his XII this year the Board exams will determine his future. Hence, it is obvious that there is a tad bit of stress around it. The difficulty level of the exams has also risen as compared to before. Bhavya is a hardworking and sincere child. I feel hopefully my son will make it through this pressure positively.
Why did you select Apeejay as an admission choice?
In the initial days, while I was looking for an apt school for my son, I figured out that Apeejay has been carrying a good reputation in the education sector. Today it’s been 14 years since the time my son Bhavya took admission into this school and in all these years I have had no complaints. Even for my younger son, Anmol, we decided to continue with the same institute owing to the great academic structure Apeejay offers.
How are the teachers at the school?
The teachers at this school have been extremely supportive and encouraging throughout for both my kids. Even the principal madam here is always involved with the students, which is a really big boost for them. The principal also tries to keep an open and regular communication with the parents which is also helpful in understanding a lot about the school and my children.
What about the balance between studies and extracurricular activities?
Bhavya once participated in a mathematics exam called the Aryabhatta Exam and passed with flying colours. I liked this idea because he was studying in class VI at that time and attempted a class VIII-level exam. My elder son actively participates in all Olympiad competitions and enjoys them. Apart from that, Bhavya loves to play tennis. Anmol on the other hand is following his brother’s footsteps and plans on taking the PCM stream moving forward. Besides that, he also enjoys tennis at school just like his brother.
What is your parenting approach like?
I keep a very transparent discussion with both my kids. With my elder son I interact about his exams, how is his preparation going, and how to deal with the pressure around it. I also keep the motivation factor going for them because as a parent I don’t want my children to face any undue stress. I also share my learning experiences at school and college and narrate them as life lessons for both.
Has Apeejay made any contribution to your children’s growth?
Obviously. The school’s contribution to my sons’ growth can never be undermined. The staff has helped in building my children’s personalities and honing them. We are quite happy and satisfied with the things going so well.
How much do you agree with the adage – that school is the second home for a child? I quite agree with this and there is no doubt about the fact that school is indeed a second home for a child. My children look forward to going to school daily and that establishes the fact that the school is doing its job well.
