Students of Apeejay School, Pitampura explore the wonders of the cosmos
Curiosity met scientific discovery as the Astronomy Club students of Apeejay School, Pitampura participated in the exclusive masterclass session, Adventures in Eclipse Chasing, organised by SPACE India in collaboration with the American Center, New Delhi. The engaging session brought together young astronomy enthusiasts for an immersive exploration of one of nature’s most spectacular celestial phenomena, solar eclipses. The workshop aimed to deepen students’ understanding of eclipse science while inspiring them to appreciate the excitement and challenges involved in observing these rare astronomical events.
The highlight of the session was an insightful address by Dr Sachin Bahmba, Founder-CMD of SPACE Group of Companies, an eminent science communicator and passionate eclipse chaser. Drawing from his extensive experience, Dr. Bahmba captivated the audience with fascinating stories from eclipse expeditions across the globe. He explained the scientific principles behind solar eclipses, their different types, and the precise celestial mechanics that make these awe-inspiring events possible.
Students also learnt about the importance of safe solar observation techniques and the specialised equipment required for eclipse viewing. Through real-life experiences and practical demonstrations, Dr. Bahmba emphasised responsible observation practices, ensuring that scientific curiosity is always accompanied by safety.
One of the most anticipated segments of the masterclass focused on the Great Eclipse of 2027, widely regarded as one of the most significant astronomical events of the decade.
