The Resident’s Welfare Association (RWA) of New Palam Vihar celebrated the 74th Republic Day with residents on 26 January. The highlight of the celebration was the presence of more than 350 present and ex-army officers. The bravery and courage of officers from the Police Force, Border Security Force, Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Airforce were acknowledged during the event. The RWA paid their respects to all the officers on behalf of the entire colony and presented them with shawls as a token of appreciation.

The event started with the official address of Ms. Kiran Kandpal, President, RWA, New Palam Vihar. She mentioned how this year’s Republic Day was the best till date for the residents of New Palam Vihar, because the flag bearers of independence and freedom were part of the celebrations. “Tum Hi Hind Ke Sher Ho,” said Ms Kandpal, in a tribute to all brave army officers.

The flag was hoisted by Mr. Rishi Raj Rana, District President, Gurugram, Jannayak Janta Party along with Ajad Kataria, Assistant Commandant; Dharamveer Singh, DIG; Ramesh Yadav, Subedar; Ved Prakash, Captain and RS Pandey, Wing Commander. As the tricolor unwound high in the sky, everyone stood up proudly for the national anthem.

Further, army officers shared their learnings and experiences from the time they served the nation. Their words were extremely empowering and moving. The entire colony echoed with the cheer of claps every time an officer talked on the stage. The efforts of ASHA workers from Gurugram, who served society religiously during the COVID-19 pandemic were also acknowledged.
