NEET PG 2024: Medical examination body implements compulsory time-bound sections

The National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has introduced a significant modification to the structure of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (Postgraduate) (NEET PG) 2024 examination, mandating time-bound sections.

This change, applicable to various MCQ-based examinations like NEET PG, NEET MDS, NEET SS, FMGE, DNB PDCET, GPAT, DPEE, FDST, and FET, aims to enhance the security and integrity of the exam in response to evolving threats during the examination process, as outlined in the official notification.

The official notification specifies that this measure has been implemented to fortify the security and sanctity of the exams in light of emerging threats during the examination process.

NEET PG 2024 Exam Format Under the revised format, the question paper for these exams will be divided into multiple time-bound sections.

NBEMS provided an example to illustrate this: In NEET-PG 2024, if there are five time-bound sections (A, B, C, D & E) in the question paper, each section will contain 40 questions with an allotted time of 42 minutes. Candidates will be unable to proceed to the next section until they have completed the allotted time for the previous section. Additionally, candidates will not be permitted to review the questions or alter their responses for a section after its allotted time has elapsed. The questions for the next section will commence automatically after the completion of the allotted time for the previous section.

NBEMS specified that candidates will have the option to mark any question, whether answered or not, for later review. This allows candidates to revisit these marked questions within a section before the conclusion of the allotted time. The questions marked for review will be evaluated according to the marking scheme.

The precise number of time-limited sections in an examination may vary depending on the total number of questions in the paper and the feasibility of implementing such sections.
