Vishal Chandel is an Assistant Manager at Axis Bank, Kartarpur, Jalandhar. He has been working since the past two years and secured a successful campus placement from Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) in Jalandhar.

In a quick chat, Vishal tells us about his work and responsibilities at the bank and how Apeejay helped him understand his core self and take steps accordingly. Read edited excerpts:

How does a regular day at work look like Vishal?

I work from 9 am to 6 pm. If there is some additional work then I have to do overtime as well. It all depends on the work. I majorly handle the customer dealing part, all their queries whether it be sending money abroad or phone number change or some account related query. Then I also oversee all the financial investments and loans. I sometimes get some field work for sales related targets as well.

How did you get interested in the banking sector?

Well, my cousin-brother was working in this sector. I would always look up to him and observe him keenly. He was working in a very friendly environment and this profession is seen socially with a lot of respect. Hence, I envisioned a similar career for myself as well.

But you did your MBA in Marketing and HR. Why didn’t you go into that?

My main interest was always in the banking line. HR was more like the side career option, plan B you can say, in case banking doesn’t work out well.

Tell us about the AIMETC days now?

Those were the best days! I learnt so much from how to work and deal with people to knowing myself better. Rajneesh sir was my mentor there. I owe a lot to him. He would help me with my internship related work. At AIMETC, I was also the president of sports activities. My major work was organizing the sports events. I also played a bit of cricket. I was a good batsman.

Were you campus placed from AIMETC?

Yes! I was very well prepared, rather grilled by the teachers. From how to appear in and face the interview panel to everything else about the placements, I was taught all of it in detail.

Finally, some suggestions for current students?

Increase your participation level! Life is not about bookish knowledge. We learn more on the field. Life is all about on field skills to be more precise. Participate in sports and co-curricular events, this is where you know how to interact and deal with people and manage things.
