Vedant Ranalkar, a successful doctor in Navi Mumbai says, “I owe everything in my life because of his school teachers. The curiosity of seeing the marvel of the human body in the biology lab and the way all my teachers made science and other subjects so interesting changed my life completely.”

Let us read what role Apeejay School, Nerul played in making Dr Vedant into what he is today.

Read edited excerpts:

As a doctor in a government facility at Navi Mumbai’s first referral hospital,my profession involves providing medical care to a diverse range of patients .

Each day is dynamic and demanding, starting with preparing for early morning rounds and reviewing patient records. The day goes by attending the patients in outpatient departments and wards, diagnosing illnesses, prescribing medications and performing procedures as needed. The nights go by in the emergency rooms tackling emergency medical and surgical conditions. A very busy day in short!

The Apeejay Nerul days of mine surely have been memorable! Be it the overnight camp in primary days, the dance and dramas in annual days or the field trips to imagica, I had the most amazing bunch of friends who made all of it even more fun. Another special memory has to be the cricket match which we got to play in the DY Patil ground for the British Council project which was indeed thrilling.

My favourite subjects in the school days have to be Math and Physics, which actually are contrary to the field I am pursuing currently. Maths classes in class IX and X used to be our favourite! The ever respected Susan maam, our Math teacher made the dreadful subject really easy and fun for everyone.

The mentorship and guidance provided by my school teachers has had a lasting impact in my life. Being a really mediocre student in my primary days, the encouragement I always got from my teachers instilled a feeling of self-belief which did wonders for me.

The values and ethics which have been instilled in me by my teachers have actually helped me a lot in the long run. Geeta ma’am, Susan ma’am, Sheelu ma’am and all the other teachers have played a really crucial role in my life with their support. I am forever indebted to them.

Studying the marvels of the human body and its functions was always something which fascinated me. I fondly remember as primary kids, during lunch break times, we used to sneak into the biology lab and get fascinated by the things there. There was also a sense of curiosity about using that knowledge to help alleviate the suffering of patients.

The compassion that draws from treating patients was always a feeling I wanted to experience. The thought gave me a sense of purpose in life, to influence the lives of people and have a positive impact on it.

Without these, medicine, rather success in any field isn’t possible.

Enter this field only if you are passionate about treating people as it would require a lot of personal sacrifices, years of hardwork and a mindset to be a lifelong learner. You should have patience and self belief, these are a must.
