Hailing from a Science (Biology) background, this alumna from Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC) pursued Mass Communication in Advertising and Marketing Communications since she was always interested in making a career in writing. At present, she is making strides at Contract Advertising in Gurugram.

Meet Stuti Gupta. Her career trajectory is still in its trainee phase but soon will be turning to a game-changer. In a candid interview, she shares how Apeejay played a transformative role, facilitating her seamless entry into the dynamic realm of creativity and advertising.

Tell us about yourself and your work.

I am a copywriter trainee at Contract Advertising in Gurugram. Over the last few months, I have been actively contributing to the company’s projects, including crafting engaging print ads, developing scripts, and occasionally participating in pitch activities.

Was this the career path that you always envisioned?

Yes. I always wanted to go into the field of writing. I am thankful to Apeejay for helping me with my first-ever interview and the placement thereafter.

Do you think Apeejay College was the right institution for shaping your career?

Without a doubt, yes. Whatever I have become today, I owe it all to the Apeejay and the faculty for being so supportive throughout my journey.

Why did you join advertising?

During my bachelor’s, I delved deeply into advertising which ultimately led me to explore the field of content writing. This exploration cultivated a sense of creative aptitude in me. With time, I was able to develop a knack for writing; slowly it helped me turn my dreams into tangible reality. I love working in this sector now and the work I am doing.

Challenges that you have faced in your career.

Since I am a trainee here, it’s just been seven months since I have been working. Adapting to the office and the corporate culture was a tad tough for me. It was difficult to navigate the nuances of formally conducting while maintaining an appropriate tone of voice. However, I have learnt it the hard way and have mostly adjusted to the new culture.

How do you stay updated with the latest trends in advertising?

There are a lot of digital pages that I follow for additional information and references. Moreover, I also listen to podcasts which is a great way to gain insights. Other than that, I stay connected with prominent LinkedIn pages to stay informed and enriched.

Tips on how to have a successful career.

Since I am a newbie, I don’t have many tips to give. I would like to say that this profession offers slow progress as compared to other professions. You will not gain fruitful results immediately. All you have to do is hang in there and keep a lot of patience.

Any fond memories of your college days?

Apeejay is the most happening institute. Every 15 days there used to be some cultural event that used to evoke a sense of excitement amongst students. I remember my trip to Jaisalmer – the ultimate highlight of my college days. The bus journey was incredible; nobody slept and enjoyed the beats of foot-tapping music and dancing. It was an incredible experience as even the faculty went along with us.

Any specific milestone you are aiming to achieve?

There is a specific milestone in mind that keeps running at the back of my head. I am super eager to write an impactful advertising film one day. The goal is not just to craft content but to create a compelling story that resonates well with audiences through the medium of ads.
