Komal Sachdeva completed her Bachelors in Computer Applications from the Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar in 2014. She believes that starting one’s career preparation from a well-reputed institute is half the job done on the path to success. “So, AIMETC kickstarted my professional journey.” At present, the Apeejay alumna is working as an HR recruiter with Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., based in Pune. In addition, she works as a social volunteer and is a member of Toastmaster Club, and the President of Junior Chamber International, a non-governmental organisation. In an interview, she talks about how AIMETC helped her carve her career path. Edited excerpts:

What did you aspire to become? How did you choose your career path?

I always had a thought of starting my career path with a good MNC and AIMETC gave me this opportunity. During the placements, I was placed in four different MNCs including EMC, SAP, Wipro, and TCS Ltd. I grabbed the opportunity to start my success path with TCS. I initially worked as an Ignite trainee in Chennai. Gradually, I got an opportunity to work as a developer, analyst, project manager, problem manager, and quality manager. At present, I am working as the HR recruiter.  I feel one should be willing to always learn and to explore the existing opportunities around. It’s important to have the experience of working for different job profiles rather than just sticking to the same role for years. I explored every role and am now hiring potential employees for the organisation. Well the start is always difficult but it’s important to at least start. You will keep climbing the ladder eventually.

You have worked in different capacities like IT Analyst, Infrastructure Management, and HR recruiter. Can you tell us some interesting parts about these roles?

When I was working as an analyst, I came to know about how things are being analysed and predictions are done. The most interesting part about this role was that today if I’m looking for a potential employee for the organisation, I have the tools to analyse and predict about candidature in advance. I then moved to working as a project manager wherein I came across various difficulties but that has just improved my management skills at an extreme level. The most important thing is to research and try to gain in-depth knowledge about anything that you are doing. And one day that piece of knowledge will be useful in one or other aspect of life.

Why did you choose AIMETC and which are the key takeaways from the institute?

Ask me why not AIMETC! Wherever I have reached professionally today, it all started from AIMETC. AIMETC helped me in every possible aspect. The faculty, the training sessions including mock interviews and group discussions – all of these have contributed equally to my success journey. Interestingly, the institute handed over a master key that can open any lock to success.

Did you go for internships when you were in Apeejay? How does an internship help in your professional development?

No, I didn’t go for any internship. Rather, AIMETC provided personality development classes that groomed my overall personality.

Any mantra you think individuals must follow in their professional career?

Just do whatever you love and then dive deep into it. Most importantly, be confident and honest, be patient, and always have the keenness to learn.
