Shivani Negi enrolled her son Aditya in Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, last year in nursery. From attending online classes to going to school briefly, every experience at the school has had a positive impact on the kindergarten student, says the mother. In an interview, Negi, a homemaker and YouTuber who has a cooking channel, shares how the school teachers are always encouraging her son. Edited excerpts:

Why did you opt for Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg?

We were new in Jalandhar, and it was our friends who recommended Apeejay Mahavir Marg for my son. They are Apeejay alumni themselves and have also enrolled their children in the same school. They gave us great feedback about the school, its teachers, and the overall environment. So, we did not have to think much about enrolling our son in Apeejay.

Tell us about the admission process.

The admission process, which took place around the time of the lockdown, went smoothly. The office staff was very helpful. Our visit to the school campus was also a good experience. We went with our son, who was very excited to see the play area, dance room, etc. We also had a fruitful interaction with the faculty. Overall, we had a wonderful time at the school.

Has your son adapted to the school environment? Does he like the classes?

From nursery to lower kindergarten, the learning process has been great. In both the classes, her teachers have been very professional and hard-working. They are so energetic and infuse children with the same, be it in online or offline classes. Last year, I had to sit with Aditya during the online classes. Now, he can manage on his own, thanks to the teachers who keep the children so well engaged in the class. My son has bonded with his teachers. I am very satisfied with the classes.

What methods do teachers use to teach a topic?

While focusing on reading and writing, teachers employ different interesting methods to teach a lesson to the students, from flashcards to interactive videos, etc. These tools are helpful in grabbing children’s interest.

What improvements are you seeing in your son?

My son’s attention span has improved. He also doesn’t feel shy to interact in class or answer the teacher’s questions. It is because the teachers encourage every student to share what they think, even if they might not always have the right answer. This is a very good way to motivate kids.

Apeejay also gives emphasis to extra-curricular activities. Is your son encouraged to participate?

My son participates in all kinds of extra-curricular activities. At the end of every month, the students are made to give a presentation on a topic that they studied. Aditya participated in an inter-school competition as well. All of this has helped build tremendous confidence in him. He also performed at the school’s Annual Appreciation Day recently and I was amazed to see all the students perform with so much energy, without missing any dance steps. The teachers have taught my son very well.
