An online survey conducted by HostingAdvice, a web-hosting information website, reveals that nearly half of Generation Alpha children, aged seven to 14, are using AI tools. The survey, completed by 500 parents, shows that boys are slightly more inclined towards using AI than girls and that the primary motivation for this use is entertainment.

The survey found that 49 per cent of Gen Alpha children use AI, with 33 per cent utilising it for fun, 23 per cent for learning new things, and 20 percent for homework assistance. Boys are more likely to use AI tools than girls, with 54 per cent of boys using them compared to 45 per cent of girls. This gender disparity is more pronounced in the context of homework, where 25 per cent of boys use AI tools compared to 16 percent of girls.

Interestingly, the use of AI tools increases with age among Gen Alpha. The survey data indicates that while 30 per cent of seven-year-olds are using AI, this number rises to about 60 per cent for children aged 13 and 14. This trend is attributed to the natural progression of digital literacy as children grow older.

The increase in AI use among older Gen Alphas is due to their growing digital literacy. This survey underscores the rapid adoption of AI tools among young children and highlights the role of digital literacy in this trend. As children become more adept at using technology, their confidence, and ability to explore AI tools increase significantly.
