Recently, Apeejay School, Noida organised a Computer Competition titled ‘Virtual Strokes’ for the brilliant minds of Class III. The much-awaited event encouraged the students to exhibit their imagination as well as computer skills through digital poster-making.
The winners of the competition were Aashwe Minhas (III A) and Atharv Johri (III D); their creative implementations of the given themes deserved first place. The second prize was awarded to Parishi Vaish (III D) for her poster.

Speaking about this win, Atharv said that wanted to join the competition because he likes drawing and painting. “The competition sounded like a fun way to show my art skills on the computer. The best part about computers is that they can help us do so many things – we use them to learn, create, play games, play music, and create art,” he shared, who selected the topic: Recycle, reuse, and reduce in KolourPaint.
“I chose this topic because it had a vast scope for presenting colourful objects and conveying a clear message of the 3Rs. I included examples like saving fuel, using solar panels, using paper bags, saving water and electricity, and saving trees. My parents guided me by helping me practice on KolourPaint, gave tips to organise my presentation, and encouraged me to be creative,” Athrav said and added that it took him two weeks to practice.

Aashwe, who also won the first position shared that she wanted to showcase her skills through this competition. While computers have its benefits, it is a machine and should be used carefully. Cybercrimes are on a high so we should learn to use the computer correctly,” she added and said that she chose Save Environment as Science is her favourite topic.
“I learnt to use KolourPaint software in school under the guidance of my teacher. I explored and practiced at home too with the help of my parents. We were given an hour to design the digital poster,” Aashwe said.

Parishi, who secured the second position, said that in her project she used KolourPaint to show astronaut Rakesh Sharma. “I used KolourPaint to show him in his spacesuit with the Indian flag proudly displayed on his arm and created models of planets and stars well. I chose this because Rakesh Sharma is a great inspiration as the first Indian to travel to space. I love space and painting the Indian flag in space was a proud moment for me,” she explained.
She thanks her computer teacher for her guidance as it helped her to use the tools properly for her creation. “At home, my parents guided me on my idea of creating space. It took me around 50-55 minutes to create this,” she said and added that she participated in the competition because she loves using computers and learning new things!
