Tell us about your achievements in judo.
When I first joined judo, I didn’t even know what it was. However, my coach saw potential in me while I was playing regular games at school and decided to train me. I entered my first zonal and though I was nervous and not that experienced, I gave my best and secured 3rd place. It was my first medal, and I was quite happy. In my next competition, I performed better and earned 2nd place, even representing Delhi and giving trials for nationals. Although I didn’t make it, it was an amazing experience. This year, I achieved my biggest accomplishment yet, winning 1st place at the zonal level.
Share your training regime.
My training was quite simple: I trained at school, then at the academy, and if I had any time left, I would exercise.
How did Apeejay support your sports journey?
Apeejay supported me throughout. I didn’t choose this sport; Apeejay introduced me to it, and I ended up enjoying it. Without Apeejay, I don’t think I would have ever known about judo.
How has judo changed your life personally?
Judo has changed my life by making me physically and mentally fitter than before. I’ve also learnt valuable self-defence skills, making it a great sport to pursue.
Any special diet you follow for it?
Judo is all about your skills and weight. You’re placed in a weight category based on your body weight. During the zonal, I was mindful of my eating habits; I avoided junk food and preferred home-cooked meals. I didn’t follow any special diet.
Would you like to take up judo professionally in future?
I like judo, but it’s not my favourite sport; cricket is. I don’t plan to pursue judo professionally in the future, but I will continue playing it because I enjoy it.
Who is your inspiration and guru?
I have two gurus in judo. The first introduced me to the sport. She pushed me, teaching me many new skills. She, along with my friends, supported me throughout my judo journey. These two mentors are the ones who helped me succeed in this sport.
