Sports is such an activity that can be taken up by anyone, at any age and any point in life. Adults, children, and elders – everyone alike can take part in sports. Many regard sports as a mere co-curricular or extracurricular activity in schools. However, in reality, sports play an equally important role as education does in a person’s life. To achieve overall and all-round development in life, one should be well-versed in both sports and culture. While education sharpens the mind, sports sharpens the body and promotes fitness. Thus, both are essential.
There are numerous advantages of involving oneself in sports. First and foremost, competitions increase the physical fitness of an individual. Additionally, sports also contribute to building stable mental well-being. Various researchers have shown that people who engage in regular sports activities experience better mental and physical health. Moreover, sports also eliminate the risk of diseases or bodily interruptions. Competitions boost immunity and increase people’s stamina. Sports also influence life expectancy, increasing the potential years of an average individual.
All of us are associated with games in some way or another in our lives. While at school and as children, we were exposed to sports in various forms. However, since many institutions do not make it obligatory to pursue sports in higher academics, some of us become dissociated from its practice. Nonetheless, a lot of people continue to engage in sports on their own accord, and some even decide to pursue a career in the field. There are many different kinds of sporting activities to choose from, including outdoor sports such as cricket, badminton, football, hockey, volleyball, and indoor sports such as various board games, table tennis, chess, etc. Each sporting activity contributes to the well-being of a person, both physically and mentally.
Games and sports are as important as food, education, and other essential things for children. They are an important means of recreation. These days, students are busy with studies and have a lot of books and subjects to study. They need a change, which can be provided by sports. Outdoor games and sports refresh the students and help them regain their lost energy. Games and sports generate mental freshness, and students become more interested in studying. They are also very useful for good health. Outdoor games, in particular, allow students to enjoy the company of nature and breathe fresh air. They provide plenty of physical exercise and keep students physically and mentally fit. Games and sports make students active, which is very important at that age. They teach students the value of discipline, teamwork, leadership, judgment, courage, and determination to win. These qualities help students develop their personality traits, which are important for building a talented person. The games and sports teach them the importance of sacrifice, discipline, grace, generosity, and firmness, empowering them to lead a successful life. Individuals with such potential can contribute significantly to society and the nation to which they belong. It is clear that games and sports have great value in life, and their nobility should be maintained.
There is a need to create a sports atmosphere in all schools and colleges to attract the maximum number of students to participate in events. Teachers need to ensure that students are given opportunities to showcase their real talent, grace, dignity, and generosity. Students should be motivated to participate in sports to gain real benefits from games.
