‘Someday she’ll tell you herself’: Poem by Varinda Chopra, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar

Someday she’ll tell you herself
For whatever she is hiding  all alone.
Dreams carried in her head
And how scared she felt.

I’m sure one day she’ll write a song,
Uttering every word, she wants to scream.
And people call her silent, for her guilt is too loud,
Longing for someone, even in the crowd.

I see her, speaking those white lies,
Hiding her life whenever she goes for a drive.
And she loves people too much,
Always being the one making her heart clutch.

Someday she’ll tell you herself
That it wasn’t easy at all.
And there is more to what she shows,
A history untold.

It’s different but she likes the cold,
Even if it makes her shiver on the bathroom floor.
Very first lesson she learnt,
Life isn’t so smooth and there is no one for you.

Someday she’ll tell you herself,
Promises are the sweetest lies.
For just the one caught,
Is all it takes to make you weep.

Hard to hear but the truth needs to appear,
The world won’t smile with you, my dear.
It’ll hurt you in the name of lessons learnt.
Let that be clear, before you’re burnt.

But what kept her going,
Is the strength from her mother,
And stubbornness from her father,
Someday she’ll tell you herself, “I’m harder to forget”.
