Reading is not just a pleasurable activity reserved for intellectuals. Reading a book is a journey into the very depths of the human mind and heart. A book is not only one’s best friend but also a process to know oneself. Therefore, to promote the love for reading, Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, celebrated World Read Aloud Day recently.

For the past 13 years, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging all participants to grab a book, find an audience and just read aloud. While the benefits of reading are countless, here are six major reasons to read aloud:

1 Improves listening skills

2 Expands vocabulary

3 Cuts down screen time

4 Reaffirms the value of reading

5 Helps spark interesting conversations

6 Promotes great bonding time with children

Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, celebrated this special day by organising many reading sessions for students across Nursery to class 5 under the DEAR program which stands for “Drop everything and read”.

Speaking about the event, Principal, Mrs Sangeeta Nistandra said, “Reading aloud is an important exercise. It sharpens the child’s mind and also aids in decision making abilities.” She further mentioned, “As a child picks up on the habit of reading, there is an increase in his/her concentration power and self-expression abilities.”

The event was a big hit with the students as they enjoyed the reading sessions and developed a positive inclination towards reading.
