On the occasion of National Youth Day which is celebrated on January 12 every year to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Apeejay School, Kharghar in Mumbai organised a stimulating event. Students reminisced the words of Vivekananda and learned from his teachings and philosophies.

Inspired by the theme of this year, ‘Viksit Yuva-Viksit Bharat’, students discussed his life and mission. His ideas encouraged them to become a better person and achieve an honourable life by contributing to the development of the country.

Infused with the values and teachings of Swami Vivekananda, the morning assembly in the school commenced with an inspirational quote: “Arise, awake, stop not till the goal is reached”. It also included a soulful rendition of a beautiful bhajan by the school’s choir.

The programme further included speeches and a skit to highlight the importance of building a progressive youth population. In the skit, class 9 students featured exemplary ways on how youth can become torch bearers of positive change in various fields such as Science and Technology, Sports, Climate Change, Social reforms, Politics, etc.

Besides, students shared snippets of youth icons who they are inspired from. Life stories of some famous personalities such as Sundar Pichai, Vikram Batra, Sunil Chettri and Helen Keller were shared. Other competitions for classes 1 to 11 were bookmark-making with famous quotes of Swami Vivekananda, dressing up like Swami Vivekananda, speech on his life history, poster-making, collage-making on youth icons. Swami Vivekananda’s writing and lectures were also recited by students. Through it all, students exhibited their talents and participated with great zeal and enthusiasm.

“Swami Vivekananda ji inspires us to lead a purposeful life. He rightly said: ‘Act on the educated young men, bring them together, and organise them’”
