NCERT cuts down syllabi for classes 6 to 12

Published

on

NCERT has recently dropped several topics from textbooks of students of classes 6 to 12 in an effort to rationalise the syllabi for the academic session 2022-23.

Some notable topics that have been removed are: Gujarat Riots, Cold War and Mughal courts, which were part of the class 12 textbooks. From class 11, the ‘Industrial Revolution’ has been scrapped. The class 7 Science syllabus has done away with the full chapter of ‘Weather, Climate and Adaptations of Animals to Climate’ while the full chapter of ‘Pollution of Air and Water’ has been removed from the class 8 Science syllabus.

NCERT has dropped out the content due to ‘overlapping’ or similar content, wherein the same or similar topic has been covered in lower or higher classes. Some themes have also been removed depending on the ‘difficulty level’ or ‘irrelevance’, in the present context.

The syllabus rationalisation process was started in December last year and has now been completed with the help of a team of subject experts.
