She belongs to Delhi and was a teacher at DAV School. As a teacher she used to observe Apeejayites and was extremely impressed by their overall demeanor. So, when she moved to Jalandhar, after marriage, she was clear where she wanted her children to study.

“Once I moved to Jalandhar, I again saw what I had observed in Delhi – the students of Apeejay stand out in a crowd. And then I found out that the Apeejay Education pays just as much attention to extracurricular activities as it does academically leading to a child’s overall development. Hence, there was no reason for me to not choose Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld,” Sunaina Behl said, whose daughter Bhaktii has recently gone to class I at Apeejay School, Model Town in Jalandhar.

Excerpts from the interview.

What is the importance of holistic development?

It is very important that the child is exposed to different activities and not just studies. The more the exposure, the better growth and development for the child. The session for class I started in April and already there had been four-five activities. These teach a child how to deal with competition, participate in group activities, and end up learning valuable lessons.

The good part is that even the parents are involved in the child’s education and means there is fun and learning.

What has been Bhaktii’s learning curve?

I would say it is excellent. I see children from other schools, who are older to her. But my daughter’s knowledge surpasses those around her. For example, last year, their school had organised a group GK quiz. She had to memorise 35 questions which she did easily. Unfortunately, her team didn’t win but it ended up giving her so much useful knowledge. She knows the important role that Chandigarh plays in Punjab. When she asked her friend who lives there. She didn’t know the answer. So my daughter promptly gave the answer.

How has your experience been thus far?

To begin with it was all good. But then last year, we hit a rough patch. We felt that the teacher had become biased. So much so that my husband and I were on the verge of changing her school. But I decided to ride this wave. And I am so glad that I did. Now, in class I, things are back on track and my daughter is once again thriving. She loves going to school and enjoys her learning.

Would you recommend this school?

Of course. There have been so many times when I have told other parents to shift their child to this school. I can proudly say that my daughter is an Apeejayite. Now, my younger daughter is all set to begin her formal education and she will join her sister at this school.

What are some of the activities that your daughter has participated in?

You name it and she has been a part of it. Her teacher this year, Shikha ma’am, is really good. She has also won quite a few of the competitions that were organised, especially last year. In February, this year, the school had organised a Talent Hunt in which she represented Jammu & Kashmir. She spoke about its rich culture and wore the traditional dress. She had won the trophy.

Is there a subject she likes?

She has been part of several events including Dexter’s Lab. Her teacher, as part of the project, had asked her to do a Science project. We had helped her to speak on gravity. She had also made a volcano that erupted as part of another project. This has developed her interest in Science. She has also now started watching more informative shows rather than cartoons.

What is the teaching methodology?

It is a combination of written and fun activities. But since the school hours have increased, kids at this age are not used to studying for so long. There are a few niggles but we can manage; with time everything will settle down. What I like is that the school makes children write. This improves their hand writing, helps in learning, especially for a subject like Math.
