Storytelling is an inseparable part of the formative years for primary children. It’s the stories that give wings to our imagination and take us to places beyond the boundaries of our physical realm, into the land of fairies, dragons, and wishing trees. Indeed, as a famous quote puts it, after nourishment, shelter and companionship, mankind yearns for stories and only stories.

In an endeavour to develop effective communication skills, build imagination, and boost confidence, the Primary Department of Apeejay School, Noida recently organised a ‘Spin a Yarn’ competition for Class 2 students.

The theme for the competition was ‘Me and My World’. Students were given an introductory line and had to build their stories based on it. They presented gripping and engaging stories that captivated the audience with their innocence, confidence, and vocabulary.

The children’s performances were impressive, displaying thorough content and clarity of speech. Their candid expressions were appropriate for the stories, creating vivid imagery of the plot and enabling vicarious learning.

The judges, teachers Ms. Neha Gupta and Ms. Nidhi Bisht, were amazed by the exuberant performances. It was challenging to choose the winners as every child showed exceptional talent and was a winner in his/her own way.

The first position was secured by Hriday Datta from Class 2-B, with Aishnaaz Kaur also from the same class securing the second position in the competition. Among the class-wise best performances, Sanjali Sharma was adjudged the best in Class 2-A, while Hritvi Dedha emerged as the best performer in Class 2-B. Siddhi Thakur and Aadvik Kumar Roy were the best performers in Class 2-C and 2-D respectively.

Primary Incharge, Ms. Smriti Samuel first applauded the young storytellers and then emphasised the importance of such events and competitions in strengthening students’ oratorical and literacy skills. She congratulated every participating student and reminded them that failure and success should both be looked at as an alarm to practice and learn more. She urged all students to participate in every competition and explore the artist within them.
