The crucial role of values in education

Education without values is like a ship without a rudder. It may help you learn things and gain skills, but it falls short of its true purpose. Education should not just be about academics; it should also focus on shaping your character and mind holistically. When values are not instilled, children may not develop into well-rounded individuals, which is important for making the world a better place.

Even though more people are getting educated, the crime rate remains high. This can be attributed to the lack of emphasis on teaching values. We have seen educated individuals involved in terrorist attacks, showing that knowledge alone is not enough. Without moral guidance, people may commit terrible acts. Education policymakers should prioritise teaching human values and building character alongside academic subjects. This approach would have better outcomes than solely focusing on academics.

When values become a priority in everyone’s life, the negative aspects of society naturally decrease. The world needs individuals with strong values to create a better place to live. As students, we each have our own experiences and perspectives. At some point during our educational journey, we may question why we are learning and studying. This question influences our plans after high school and motivates us to work hard on assignments, even during late nights and weekends. Without a clear answer to this question, our tasks may seem meaningless.

Discovering the purpose behind our education can change the traditional values embedded in the educational system. By emphasising the importance of values, we can create a meaningful and impactful educational experience that prepares us to contribute positively to society.
