Krupali Vikram Dhumal, homemaker, was quite anxious about how her daughter Kavyaa would adjust to a school after being at home during the Covid-induced pandemic. Much to her relief, the teachers at Apeejay School, Kharghar, guided and motivated her daughter, resulting in a positive change. In an interview, the mother tells us more about the progress she is seeing in Kavyaa, who is now in KG.

Excerpts:

What made you think Apeejay would be the right choice for your daughter?

My elder brother’s daughter was already studying in the school in class IX. Some of our acquaintances and neighbours either had their children enrolled in the school or were alumni themselves. One of them was also a teacher at the school. I got positive reviews from all of them.

While we were looking for schools, Apeejay turned out to be the best one in terms of children’s overall progress. My daughter was also insistent about following in her cousin’s footsteps and studying in this school. She performed well during the admission interaction and was finally enrolled in nursery.

What kind of progress are you seeing in Kavyaa?

Before joining Apeejay Kharghar, Kavyaa had no play school experience. I had only taught her to write the first four letters of the alphabet. Later, I conveyed this to her class teacher at Apeejay, Sudeshna ma’am, and it was with her help that Kavyaa learnt to write the alphabet easily. She has played a major role in my daughter’s progress.

Kavyaa is also participating in various co-curricular activities, thanks to the encouragement she receives from teachers. She has no stage fear and performs on stage confidently. I am very happy with the positive changes I am noticing in my daughter.

Are there any positive behaviourial changes too?

After online classes, we were apprehensive about whether Kavyaa would be able to interact and adjust to a school environment. But, to our surprise, she gelled in easily. She likes to interact with everyone. She is curious about things and does not shy away from asking questions from her teacher. Her presentation skills have also improved.

What about academics?

Be it rhymes or anything else that they are learning, the teachers explain concepts with a lot of care and patience. There is no burden on parents. I do not have to pressure my daughter to study — she enjoys learning, which is very important.

Apeejay focuses on inculcating moral values. How is it benefitting Kavyaa?

She is learning about personal hygiene, etiquette, and good values. There is a positive change in her overall personality.

How well do teachers support parents?

All the teachers are extremely helpful. Not only do they share regular updates but also try to resolve issues regarding our child, if any. They are always available to answer our queries.
