Apeejay School, Pitampura, inaugurated the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Inter-School Chess Tournament, welcoming enthusiastic young chess players from 28 leading schools across Delhi. The annual tournament brought together budding strategists on a common platform to celebrate critical thinking, discipline, and sportsmanship through the timeless game of chess.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, International Master (IM) Vishal Sareen, along with the Principal Mrs Veena Goel, Vice Principal, teachers, participating students, and accompanying officials from the visiting schools. The atmosphere reflected excitement and anticipation as players prepared to compete in one of the city’s much-awaited inter-school chess events.


Adding colour and vibrancy to the occasion, students presented captivating dance performances and a melodious choral rendition, setting an inspiring tone for the tournament. The cultural programme highlighted the school’s commitment to nurturing both intellectual and creative excellence.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs Goel extended a heartfelt welcome to the guests and participants. In her address, she emphasised that chess is much more than a competitive sport—it is a powerful medium for developing concentration, analytical thinking, patience, discipline, and sound decision-making. She encouraged every participant to compete with honesty, confidence, and determination while embracing the true spirit of fair play.


In his keynote address, IM Vishal Sareen appreciated Apeejay School, Pitampura, for consistently promoting intellectual sports and providing young players with meaningful opportunities to showcase their talent. Motivating the participants, he urged them to approach every match as a learning experience, respect their opponents, and remain confident regardless of the outcome.






The ceremony concluded with the Chief Guest formally declaring the Dr Stya Paul Inter-School Chess Tournament open, marking the beginning of an exciting series of matches. With participation from 28 schools across Delhi, the tournament promises to foster strategic thinking, resilience, and healthy competition while inspiring students to excel both on and off the chessboard.
