The JEE Mains Results for 2024 Session I were declared on February 12. Several students from Apeejay Schools have brought accolades to the institute. One such student is Bhavya Tiwari of Apeejay School, Noida who scored a 99.99 percentile. This score put this class XII student (non-medical) at the top of the list from Uttar Pradesh.

In a candid interview, he talks about his preparation strategy, choice of subjects, and future aspirations

What were your subjects? Did you choose PCM with Computer Science?

I chose PCM with Biology (PCMB). My result is quite satisfactory. I was expecting a decent result, and overall, it has turned out well. I plan to take the JEE Mains Session II and JEE Mains-Advanced exams as well.

Which stream are you planning to pursue?

I plan to pursue Engineering in Computer Science from a renowned college in Delhi or Bombay, aiming for IIT. I am attracted by the fields of data structures and algorithms due to their wide applications and the need for logical reasoning.

Can you share your study strategy?

My strategy was centered on NCERT books, supplemented by various reference books and modules for specific subjects needing more practice. There are several reference books that one can study depending upon strengths and weaknesses. While there are popular books like OP Arora, I believe students should explore and find reference books that suit them best.

What were your strengths and weaknesses in subjects?

I had been preparing for the JEE exams since I was in class IX. Therefore, I didn’t have specific strengths or weaknesses; my performance mostly depended on the subject and preparation level.

Was it challenging to sustain studying for JEE over four years?

There were minor challenges, but the focus was on consistent improvement and overcoming daily hurdles rather than facing a single big challenge. Also, preparing for the JEE and Boards was not very tough. Proper timing and managing sessions side by side made it quite manageable.

What was your approach to time management and practice for the exams?

Practice was key. Assessing readiness through mock papers and ensuring a grasp of the required knowledge and speed was crucial. I practiced several mock test papers — I must have solved over 50 mock papers.

What was your exam day strategy?

My approach was flexible, choosing subjects to attempt first based on comfort and compatibility, without a fixed strategy.

What advice would you give to future exam takers?

Learn from mistakes, focus on weaknesses, and maintain a positive exam temperament. Don’t be discouraged by low percentiles; there’s always another chance.

How did you spend the day before the exam?

I relaxed to ensure I was stress-free and had a good night’s sleep, which I believe is crucial for energy and focus during the exam. One has to sit in the exam for three hours. A good night’s sleep will make everyone energized for the exam which is necessary to tackle the JEE.
