There is something majestic about Tigers –  something royal, something radiant that sets this animal apart. And maybe this is why it was chosen as the national animal of India.

Celebrating International Tiger Day today, let us salute the rehabilitation and conservation efforts of countless wildlife activists and learn about some activities school children participate in.

The pre-primary Wing of Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, celebrated Tiger Day with great enthusiasm and excitement. The event aimed to educate the young minds about the importance of the national animal, its cultural significance and the need for its conservation.

Teachers organised various engaging activities for students across Nursery, LKG, and UKG classes. Through the Grateful Tiger Story, the little ones learned about the compassionate nature of tigers and the significance of showing kindness to all living beings.

A fun origami tiger face activity was organised for Nursery students. The LKG students engaged in a cool jigsaw puzzle activity that featured a tiger image. The UKG students on the other hand created tiger drawings using hand impressions, turning their little fingers into artistic masterpieces.

Thus, the event nurtured the students’ curiosity and compassion, preparing them to be future custodians of our environment and its majestic inhabitants.

Furthermore, here are five fun facts about this BIG CAT that are sure to blow your mind:

  1. Unique Stripes: Tigers are the only big cats in the world with vertical stripes on their fur. Each tiger has a unique stripe pattern, similar to a human’s fingerprint, making it easier for researchers to identify and track individual tigers in the wild.
  2. Strong Swimmers: Unlike most cats, tigers are excellent swimmers. They are known to enjoy taking dips in rivers and lakes, making them one of the few feline species that are not afraid of water. Tigers use their powerful limbs and webbed paws to navigate through water with ease, often swimming long distances in search of prey.
  3. Mighty Roar: Tigers have one of the loudest roars among all big cats. Their powerful vocalizations can be heard up to 3 kilometers (1.86 miles) away, making it an effective way for tigers to communicate with each other and establish territory.
  4. Superb Night Vision: Tigers are crepuscular animals, which means they are most active during dawn and dusk. To aid their hunting during low-light conditions, tigers have exceptionally keen night vision, allowing them to spot prey even in dimly lit environments.
  5. Purr-fect Family Bonds: Unlike other big cats, tigers are social animals, especially females. A female tiger is often seen forming close-knit family groups with her cubs. She is an affectionate and caring mother, teaching her cubs vital hunting and survival skills until they are old enough to venture out on their own.
