Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially declared August 23 as National Space Day in commemoration of the remarkable achievement of Chandrayaan-3’s lunar landing. This special day will serve to honour India’s triumphant third lunar mission.

Speaking from the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex in Bengaluru, the PM expressed his deep connection to the event. Despite his physical presence in South Africa and Greece at the time, his thoughts were firmly rooted with the Indian team as they orchestrated the successful Chandrayaan-3 landing.

He took the occasion to bestow meaningful names upon significant lunar sites. The landing site of India’s third lunar mission was christened ‘Shiv Shakti’ as a testament to the nation’s spiritual heritage. Additionally, the touch-down point of Chandrayaan-2 was named ‘Tiranga’, signifying the Tricolour flag that symbolises India’s unity and diversity.

This proclamation underlines India’s rapid strides in space exploration and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of scientific achievement. The designation of National Space Day marks a collective acknowledgment of India’s advancements in space technology and its promising journey towards the cosmos.
