In an interview, Abhishek Kumar Garg, Senior Manager, HCL Technologies, emphasises how the teachers at his son’s school Apeejay Noida focus equally on every student’s progress. The father reveals how his son Aayansh, who is now in class 1, was enrolled in the school, the skills he is learning beyond academics, and more. Edited excerpts:

Tell us how you decided to enroll Aayansh in Apeejay School, Noida.

Aayansh was three years old when we planned to enroll him in a good school. Unlike the criteria in many schools which need the child to be at least four years old, Apeejay School, Noida, showed confidence in our son and gave him the opportunity to be a part of their family. They accepted the challenge to groom our boy very early, which I appreciate a lot. The school focuses equally on children of all ages, which is great. Besides, my late wife Neha Garg was a tutor, who knew very well about Apeejay’s good quality education.

Would you say you made the right choice? Why?

The academic programme in the school is excellent. The school is committed to promoting every child’s progress. The overall journey till now has been good. I am hoping to see them continue their good work through improvised classrooms and teaching methods. I am also looking forward to seeing my son participate more in sports.

What is your opinion about the schoolteachers and the methods they use to teach?

The schoolteachers are quite capable and dedicated. They are well aware of each child’s strengths and weaknesses and how they are improving. Despite running in the virtual mode, the classes have been very good, with a lot of emphasis on activity-based learning and interactive sessions. The teachers organise at least two to three activities in a month. They also teach through interactive videos which helps students retain what they learn. I am looking forward to more of this kind of blended learning even in the offline mode.

Did your son participate in the school’s recent Annual Appreciation Day?

Yes, my son participated in the school’s Annual Appreciation Day. He performed in two plays and two dances. It was a good experience.

What kind of improvements have you noticed in your son?

Aayansh is doing well in academics in terms of reading and writing. Not just that, he has also developed good communication skills, among other qualities. I don’t think the school is putting any extra pressure on the kids. The pedagogy and curriculum are very good. I am happy with my son’s achievements.
