As I was filling the online form for the position of Junior Head Boy, I remember thinking to myself – “What a big responsibility this is! Prestigious yet daunting”. I was very nervous but also a bit excited about the possibility of being the Head Boy of our Primary School. Few more children were invited along with me to have a zoom interaction with Seema Maam, Poonam Maam and Geetika Maam – our Primary In-charge.
I saw my friends in the zoom meeting room and felt comforted to be in their presence. We were each asked to speak a little about ourselves. I took the lead and introduced myself. There were few other questions that were asked which I to the best of my abilities answered.
I do recall one particular tricky question in which we were asked how we would feel if we didn’t get selected as the Head Boy! This thought was there in my mind and I with all sincerity felt that I would congratulate my fellow classmate because at the end of the day we are all friends!
This was followed by another zoom interview this time with our Principal Sir! I was interacting with him for the first time. Even though I had butterflies in my stomach, I was confident. After the interaction however, I became nervous. I shared my feelings with my mother who calmed me down.
She assured me that even if I was not selected as the Head Boy, she will always be proud of me and my effort! She also mentioned that given my abilities, I would definitely find myself on the prefectorial board in some manner!
I felt reassured. No announcements had been made yet on who was to become the Head Boy. As days passed, I got nervous again. During those times I would speak to my mother and father who made me realise my abilities and qualities. This would help me calm my nerves and make me relax.
They also reassured me that the end result is important but what is more important is my effort! I was now happy! Even if I did not get selected as the Head Boy, I knew I had tried my best.
After a couple of days, the teachers announced another zoom interaction. But this time this invite was only to a few children. I did not know what to expect. But it was during this Zoom session, that they announced my name as the Junior Head Boy! I was surprised and super excited!
I remember wanting to run immediately to my mother to let her know but had to wait for our meeting to end. As soon as the session got over, I ran to my mother crying tears of joy! She hugged me and said how proud she was of me and felt as if she was on top of the world! My siblings started the victory dance and we all ended up laughing so hard. What gave me more happiness was when I found later that my good friends Chaitanya, Anhad, Hemang too had got selected for the Prefectorial Board. I was happy that I would be working with my friends and also children of the other section.
I told my friends who were not in the zoom about the entire incident. They were just as excited as I was. I found out who my fellow partner would be and she too was from my own class. I looked forward to taking up this role with full enthusiasm. This day will always be a very special day for me and my family!
