Green Flag Showcase: Nurturing positive relationships among students

‘Green Flag Showcase’ activities often prompt students to reflect on their behaviours and values. By thinking about what they consider important in a relationship, they become more self-aware and mindful of their actions toward others. By focusing on green flags —positive traits and behaviors in relationships — students learn what makes interactions healthy and supportive.

To encourage students to become more knowledgeable, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg organised an enriching activity for the students of class XI-D. The activity took place on July 1, 2024, and was led by the school counselor, Ms Ria Sharma. The purpose of this event was to inspire students to reflect on and articulate their perceptions of a ‘green flag’ — a metaphor for positive traits and behaviors that signify healthy and constructive social relationships.

Ms Sharma began the session by introducing the concept. She explained that, just as red flags indicate warning signs of potential issues, green flags highlight qualities that contribute to healthy, respectful, and fulfilling interactions. She emphasised the importance of recognising and nurturing these positive traits to build strong and supportive relationships.

The session encouraged active participation, inviting each student to come forward and share their version of a ‘green flag’. This activity prompted students to think deeply about the qualities they value most in their relationships, whether with friends, family members, or peers. Students highlighted a variety of traits, such as honesty, loyalty, respect, empathy, and love, illustrating a broad spectrum of positive characteristics that can enhance social interactions.
