Participating in the school-level Model United Nations (MUNs) is a transformative experience that offers students a unique platform to cultivate a range of invaluable skills. These events provide a simulated environment as students step into the shoes of diplomats, debating and negotiating on global issues. It fosters critical thinking, research skills, and an in-depth understanding of international affairs.

Through MUNs, students learn how to articulate their viewpoints effectively, navigate complex geopolitical scenarios, and find diplomatic solutions to intricate problems. This not only enhances their knowledge of world affairs but also hones their ability to communicate persuasively, an essential skill in any profession. MUNs also encourage teamwork and collaboration, as participants work together to draft resolutions and form alliances, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

The Cambridge International School in New Baradari, Jalandhar, recently hosted a highly successful MUN event, bringing talented students to engage in diplomatic discussions and hone their negotiation skills. Twenty-one students from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg participated.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr Manish Malhotra, an educator at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg who was appointed as the chief mentor of the session. His guidance and expertise added an invaluable dimension to the proceedings.

At the event, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, earned the prestigious title of ‘Best School’ for its outstanding performance, showcasing the students’ dedication to diplomacy and global affairs. Individual accolades were also distributed to commendable delegates: Hunar Pasricha, representing Sweden in the UN’s ECOSOC committee, was declared the ‘Best Delegate’, showcasing an impressive grasp of the subject matter and an ability to navigate complex diplomatic scenarios and Om Jhanji, representing Belgium in the G20 committee, was awarded the title of ‘Best Delegate’ for his outstanding performance and diplomatic prowess.

Priyambika Berry was recognised as the ‘IP Journalism Best Reporter’, demonstrating exceptional journalistic skills and a keen eye for detail, Sudiksha Sisodia represented New Zealand in the UN’s ECOSOC committee and was awarded a ‘High Commendation’ for her exceptional contributions to the discussions. Aaditye Angrish and Inaya Jilowa received ‘Special Mention’ awards for their remarkable contributions in the Journalism committee, demonstrating an acute understanding of media dynamics and global affairs.

These awards not only recognise individual achievements but also underscore the collective dedication and hard work put in by all participants. The event provided an invaluable opportunity for young minds to engage with global issues, fostering critical thinking, communication, and negotiation skills.

Sharing his experience of the day, Mr Malhotra said, “It was delightful to be there. In my address to all the students, I encouraged them to be aware about their human rights. I also enlightened them about the different UN organisations and the safety and welfare of individuals and nations. This information is crucial for students’ overall intellectual development as well as career.”

The success of these talented minds is a testament to the commitment of both the students and faculty to the pursuit of excellence in international affairs and diplomacy.
