Gandhi Jayanti offered Class II students of Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, an opportunity to remember Mahatma Gandhi and reflect on the values he stood for. Through a special morning assembly, the young learners paid tribute to the Father of the Nation in a simple and meaningful manner. The occasion also allowed them to understand why his message continues to remain relevant in everyday life.
Remembering Gandhiji through expression
The assembly brought together different forms of expression. It began with a soulful prayer and choir, followed by the ‘thought of the day’ and a speech. The students also presented a group song and a lively enactment that portrayed significant events from Mahatma Gandhi’s life.

Each part of the presentation helped the children revisit his message in a way they could understand and relate to. Their performances focused on truth, non-violence, peace, simplicity, and equality, values that remain closely associated with Gandhiji’s life and teachings. By presenting these ideas through different activities, the students were able to engage with them beyond the usual classroom setting.
Learning beyond the classroom
The celebration was not limited to remembering a national leader. It also gave the students a chance to think about how these values can be reflected in everyday behaviour. Kindness, honesty and peaceful conduct may seem like small choices, but they can shape the way children respond to people and situations around them.

For young learners, such occasions can make important ideas easier to understand. A prayer, a song, a speech or an enactment can help turn a lesson into something they can see, feel and remember. It also encourages them to connect values with their actions and choices.
The Gandhi Jayanti assembly ended on a thoughtful note. It reminded the students that keeping Gandhiji’s ideals alive does not always require grand gestures. It can begin with simple actions, honest words and a willingness to choose peace in daily life.
