Embarking on an excursion trip opens a gateway to myriad opportunities far beyond the traditional confines of textbooks and classroom learning. It’s essential for schools to periodically organise such trips, as they serve as a bridge between theoretical knowledge and practical application. These ventures are collective journeys that fortify bonds among classmates and immerse them in enriching activities, fostering a sense of unity and shared discovery.
Highlighting the importance of hands-on learning and real-world engagement, Apeejay School International in Panchsheel Park organised a memorable field trip for its students on January 23, 2024. The destination was the innovative ‘Waste to Wonders’ park, a place where curiosity and excitement blended seamlessly, growing with each passing mile. Upon arrival, the park’s staff offered a warm reception and essential guidance, setting the stage for an educational adventure.
This excursion was meticulously planned to include guided tours, allowing students to delve into the artistic and environmental wonders scattered throughout the park. Informational displays at the entrance detailed the recycled materials used in each sculpture, from the majestic Taj Mahal to the iconic Statue of Liberty and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, alongside the artists’ messages about sustainability and environmental consciousness. This prompted students to engage deeply, asking thoughtful questions about the creative process and the critical issue of waste management.

Particularly for the students of PYP-1, the trip aligned perfectly with their current unit, “Sharing the Planet.” They were fascinated by the innovative use of recycled materials — iron sheets, rods, fans, and auto parts — in constructing the sculptures. This hands-on experience provided profound insights into recycling’s importance and its role in preserving our environment.
A standout feature was a dinosaur sculpture crafted entirely from discarded metal, symbolising the potential for repurposing materials to reduce landfill waste. This creative display, among others, not only captured the students’ admiration but also allowed them to participate in joyful, educational activities.
Post-trip, the reflection phase was equally enriching. Students shared their learnings and reflections, emphasising the trip’s role in enhancing their understanding of environmental protection and the innovative reuse of materials. This excursion was not just an educational outing but a catalyst for igniting a deeper appreciation for technological advancements and environmental stewardship among the students.
In conclusion, the field trip to “Waste to Wonders” offered by Apeejay School International served as a profound learning experience. It underscored the importance of connecting theoretical knowledge with practical application, fostering teamwork, and instilling a sense of responsibility towards our planet. Through engaging activities and interactive learning, students gained invaluable insights into the importance of recycling, innovation, and environmental preservation, marking the excursion as an indispensable part of their educational journey.
