When a Camera Becomes a Canvas: ‘Nazariya 3.0’ Celebrates Young Photographers

Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, hosted its annual photography exhibition, ‘Nazariya 3.0’, celebrating the creative vision, artistic sensibilities and storytelling abilities of its students. The exhibition transformed photographs into windows to different perspectives, inviting viewers to see familiar subjects through fresh and imaginative eyes.

Featuring entries across five themes — Shadow and Lights, Portraits, Nature, Moments in Motion, and Heritage — the exhibition offered budding photographers a vibrant platform to experiment with composition, perspective and visual storytelling. Each theme brought a distinct dimension to the display, reflecting the students’ ability to find beauty, emotion and meaning in people, places and everyday moments.

The exhibition received an overwhelming and enthusiastic response from students and faculty members. Visitors appreciated the participants’ creative vision and execution, while the diverse range of photographs demonstrated the breadth of talent nurtured at the college. The photographs not only showcased technical skills but also reflected the students’ individual ways of observing and interpreting the world around them.

The winners across the five categories were selected by eminent judge Mr. Rajesh Kalsi from the Design Department. The competition witnessed strong participation and brought recognition to students from diverse academic disciplines.

In Shadow and Lights, Aryan (BFA) secured the first position, followed by Anjila in second place and Sahibpreet Singh (HCM) in third. In the Portrait category, Samita (BFA) emerged winner, with Sahibpreet Singh (HCM) securing second place and Shreya (JMC) taking third.

The Nature category saw Manya Aggarwal (MA English) claim the top position, while Anjani (Interior Design) and Ibnat (JMC) secured second and third places respectively. In Moments in Motion, Samita (BFA) won first place, followed by Japnoor Kaur (B.Com) and Parth (JMC) in second and third positions.

In the Heritage category, Kirat (JMC) secured first place, with Niharika Sharma (Interior Design) and Naina (Interior Design) taking second and third positions respectively.

Appreciating the success of the exhibition, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra remarked that photography is an art form through which various facets of society — whether related to art or nature — can be portrayed. She noted that ACFA students had beautifully depicted different dimensions of society through their images.

Dr. Dhingra also appreciated the students’ work and interacted with them to understand the stories and ideas behind their photographs. She extended her best wishes for their future creative projects. She further commended the efforts of Mr. Mohit, Ms. Ritu and Ms. Ayushi from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for their contribution towards making the exhibition a success.

‘Nazariya 3.0’ thus celebrated photography not merely as a visual medium, but as a powerful form of observation, expression and storytelling, giving students an opportunity to turn their unique perspectives into compelling images.
