‘I learnt to transform inspiration into complete designs here’

This EDD-V student at Apeejay Institute of Design (AID), pursuing Fashion Design, has always been interested in fashion, creativity and exploring new ideas through clothing. She chose this programme because it allows her to express her creativity and transform her ideas into designs. This institute has given her a valuable opportunity to strengthen her creative and technical skills.

Meet Jainab, who, in a candid interview, talks about how faculty members and practical learning opportunities at AID supported her growth, among other things.

How has your creative approach evolved during the EDD programme?

During the EDD programme, my creative approach has become more structured and experimental. I have learnt how to draw from research and inspiration and develop these ideas into complete designs.

Which project or assignment has challenged you the most, and what did you learn from it?

Developing a complete collection has been the most challenging assignment for me. It taught me the importance of research, planning and time management. I also learnt that designers must continually refine their ideas to achieve the desired outcome.

Which areas of Fashion Design interest you most?

I am particularly interested in garment designing, pattern making and fashion illustration. I enjoy creating garments that are both imaginative and wearable.

How have the faculty members and practical learning opportunities at AID supported you?

The faculty members have guided me throughout the design process and helped me develop and improve my ideas. The practical projects have strengthened my knowledge and given me greater confidence in my abilities.

What skills are essential to build a career in Fashion Design?

I believe creativity, observation, communication, technical knowledge, time management and problem-solving are essential for a career in Fashion Design. Students should also remain open to learning, experimenting and exploring new possibilities.

What kind of work would you like to pursue after completing the programme?

After completing the programme, I would like to work in the fashion industry, particularly in garment designing and product development. I want to gain professional experience, sharpen my skills and establish my own identity as a fashion designer.
