Student-led assembly inspires curiosity about space science, innovation and India’s achievements in exploration
Recently, Apeejay School, Kharghar, organised a special assembly to commemorate National Space Day, engaging students from Classes III to XII in an insightful exploration of India’s remarkable journey in space science and technology.
The assembly was designed to familiarise students with the evolution of India’s space programme while encouraging them to appreciate the scientific vision, perseverance and innovation that have shaped the country’s achievements in space exploration. Through an engaging student-led presentation, learners traced the growth of India’s space programme from its early beginnings to its significant milestones in contemporary times.
The presentation highlighted the pioneering contributions of Dr Vikram Sarabhai, widely regarded as the father of the Indian space programme, and his vision of harnessing space technology for national development. Students also reflected on the dedicated efforts of generations of scientists and the pivotal role played by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in establishing India as a significant force in global space exploration.
Adding a contemporary dimension to the assembly, students shared important space-related news and current developments, enabling their peers to connect concepts learnt in the classroom with developments taking place in the world of science and technology. The presentation also provided an opportunity for students to understand how advances in space research contribute to communication, weather forecasting, navigation, disaster management, and several other areas of everyday life.
The assembly proved to be an informative and inspiring learning experience, sparking curiosity among students about the universe and the possibilities offered by careers in space science, research, engineering and technology.
The celebration reinforced the message that India’s space journey is built on vision, determination, scientific temper, and continuous innovation. By placing students at the centre of the presentation, the assembly encouraged young learners to remain curious, think creatively, and aspire to contribute to India’s future achievements in science and exploration.
