Experts illuminate young minds with HIV prevention and care

In a proactive initiative, the National Service Scheme (NSS), Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and Rotaract Club of Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram, joined forces with the Haryana State AIDS Control Society (NACO) to conduct an insightful workshop on AIDS awareness. The event aimed to disseminate crucial information about HIV prevention, treatment, and support, fostering a community educated on the importance of public health.

The workshop featured esteemed resource persons, including Dr. Keshav Sharma, Deputy Civil Surgeon, Gurugram, and Dr. Hemant, MO Art, along with Ms. Shikha Garg, Sr. Counselor. Their expertise illuminated the attendees on various facets of AIDS, contributing to the broader goal of creating an informed and compassionate society.

The session commenced with an overview of the current scenario of HIV/AIDS, emphasising the need for awareness and proactive measures. The speakers, with their wealth of experience, shed light on the medical aspects, including transmission, symptoms, and available treatments. Attendees gained insights into the importance of early detection and the advancements in medical interventions.

Further, the significance of art in conveying powerful messages and reducing stigma associated with HIV/AIDS we discussed. The presentation on how art can serve as a medium to educate, inspire, and promote empathy within communities was also showcased.

The workshop provided a platform for attendees to engage in open discussions, dispel myths, and seek clarifications. The collaborative effort of NSS, UBA, Rotaract Club, and Haryana State AIDS Control Society created an environment that encouraged active participation and learning.

Emphasising key points, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Associate Professor, School of Education, said, “NSS ASU, with the motto ‘Not Me, But You,’ always organises programmes beneficial for the youth and the larger society. AIDS is a serious threat to public health, and therefore, we need to raise awareness, particularly among the youth.”

All in all, the workshop not only disseminated valuable information but also fostered a sense of responsibility and empathy within the university community. The collaborative effort underscored the importance of such initiatives in building a society that is well-informed, compassionate, and actively involved in public health initiatives.
