A student portfolio is more than a collection of completed work. It allows children to look back at their efforts, recognise progress, and understand how learning develops over time. With this purpose, the Preparatory Wing of Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, organised a Students’ Portfolio Workshop for the young achievers of Classes III and IV.

The session introduced students to the value of maintaining a clear and meaningful record of their academic journey. It also helped them see how a portfolio can reflect their goals, growth, learning, and achievements.

Understanding the purpose of a portfolio

The workshop was conducted by the In-charge, Ms Gunjan Sharma. She explained how students could document their progress in their portfolio files. The discussion covered the different aspects that deserve a place in such a record, including personal goals, learning experiences, and gradual improvement.

Students were encouraged to view the exercise as more than routine documentation. A carefully maintained portfolio can help them notice the effort behind each task and trace how their skills develop with time. It can also remind them that progress often takes place through small and steady steps.

Encouraging self-reflection

The workshop deepened the students’ understanding of portfolio building. It encouraged them to maintain their files as an honest record of their work and achievements. By reviewing what they have completed, children can become more aware of what they have learned and where they wish to improve.

For students, this habit can make learning more personal. It gives them space to recognise their own effort rather than focusing only on the final result.

As students continue to update their portfolios, each entry can help them acknowledge a milestone, revisit a goal, and take greater ownership of their learning journey.
