Apeejay School, Pitampura, began its post-reopening professional development programme on an inspiring note with a morning session that celebrated achievements, shared experiences, and strengthened the faculty’s commitment to meaningful teaching.

The session commenced with a warm welcome by the school Principal, Mrs Veena Goel, who congratulated the staff on the school’s updated CBSE results. Appreciating the collective efforts of teachers and staff members, she highlighted the importance of continuous learning and collaboration in sustaining academic excellence and student well-being.

The morning was further enriched by Ms Praveen, who shared engaging experiences and reflections from her summer visit to Japan. Her anecdotes offered staff members a glimpse into the country’s culture, discipline, innovation, and deep-rooted respect for tradition. The interaction added a refreshing global perspective to the gathering and encouraged educators to draw inspiration from learning experiences beyond the classroom.

The highlight of the programme was a staff workshop titled From Teachers to Coaches: A Masterclass in Behavioural Reframing, SMART Metrics and Gen-Z Connection. Conducted by Dr Sunita Tankk, an experienced career and wellness coach, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, and Founder, Leaders in Making (training and consultancy firm), the workshop focused on equipping teachers with contemporary strategies to engage and mentor today’s learners.

Dr Tankk spoke about the changing role of educators in the 21st century. She emphasised that teachers are no longer expected to be only instructors who deliver content; they must also become coaches who inspire, guide, listen to, and empower students. She discussed the distinctive characteristics of Gen-Z learners, including their digital fluency, preference for interactive learning, need for timely feedback, and desire for relevant and meaningful learning experiences.

A key component of the workshop was the use of SMART metrics to set realistic goals, monitor student progress, and encourage accountability. Teachers explored how these metrics can be reframed to support personalised learning and help students take greater ownership of their academic and personal growth. The discussion reinforced the idea that assessment should not merely measure performance but should also promote continuous improvement.

Through interactive discussions, case studies, and practical classroom strategies, participants reflected on their teaching practices and explored ways to adopt a coaching mindset, one where connection is valued more than correction. The workshop also introduced teachers to emerging AI tools that can support stronger student relationships, critical thinking, and self-directed learning.

The initiative, envisioned by the school Principal, reaffirmed the school’s commitment to preparing educators for the evolving needs of learners. The session left the faculty motivated to create inclusive, learner-centric, and future-ready classrooms for Gen-Z students.
