Young minds celebrate India’s freedom struggle at Dr Stya Paul Memorial Quiz
Apeejay School, Nerul, hosts the third edition of the inter-school quiz, bringing together 14 schools to test students’ knowledge of India’s journey to independence
Recently, Apeejay School, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, hosted the third edition of the Dr Stya Paul Memorial Indian Freedom Movement Inter-school Quiz Competition 2026, bringing together 14 schools from across the city for an engaging celebration of India’s freedom struggle, historical awareness and intellectual excellence.
The quiz was organised in memory of Dr Stya Paul, eminent educationist, philanthropist and freedom fighter, whose vision of empowering young minds through education continues to inspire generations. The event aimed to familiarise students with India’s journey towards independence while nurturing curiosity, knowledge and national pride.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Mr P Subhash, Principal, Apeejay School, Nerul, who paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Dr Stya Paul. He also acknowledged the leadership of Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, and Chairman, Apeejay Education, whose commitment to educational excellence and nation-building continues to shape the institution’s values.
The competition began with an elimination round, with four schools qualifying for the finals. The preliminary round tested participants on significant events and milestones of the Indian freedom movement, spanning the period from 1757 to 1951.
The final stage comprised eight stimulating rounds, including Audio-Visual, Rapid Fire and Buzzer rounds. Questions covered diverse themes such as the History of the Indian Freedom Movement, Indian National Congress, Freedom Fighters and the Indian Constitution. A special round on Mahatma Gandhi provided students with an opportunity to delve deeper into the life and contributions of one of India’s most influential freedom leaders. The Audio-Visual round added an interactive dimension, challenging participants to identify and interpret images, videos and audio clips.
The competition concluded amid enthusiastic applause as the results were announced. Apeejay School, Nerul, secured the first position, with its students receiving medals for their commendable performance. The Rolling Trophy was presented to DAV Airoli, which also shared the first position, ensuring recognition for both the host institution and the visiting school.
The successful third edition reaffirmed the significance of preserving historical memory among young learners. By combining knowledge, teamwork and healthy competition, the quiz provided students with an enriching platform to explore India’s freedom movement and reflect on the values that shaped the nation. The event concluded on a note of pride, inquiry and inspiration, honouring Dr Stya Paul’s legacy while encouraging the youth to carry forward the ideals of knowledge, courage and nation-building.
