As one grows in age, one realises many truths about life. But the one truth that always stares in the face is ‘health is indeed wealth’. For one can only experience all joys in the world if one is healthy. It is therefore, to reiterate the importance of health that a ‘Healthy Week’ was organised for the pre-primary students of Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar. This week-long activity not only encouraged the kids to learn about the benefits of eating healthy, but they also learnt about table manners and a host of important lessons.

The working week divided into five days focussed on highlighting one value a day. Day 1 focussed on table manners. Good table manners one would agree is key social skill as it gives the child the right confidence in various social situations.  Children were taught basic tips such as proper postures of sitting at the table among other things.

The second day, ‘Salad Day’ was a fun activity-based learning lesson. Kids identified different fruits and vegetables in a salad and learnt about their nutritional benefits. ‘Soup Day’ was the third day of the week-long activity in which students learnt about the benefits of soup for it preserves the nutritional value of vegetables and is filled with healthy fibres that are rich in taste.

Students enjoyed wearing various fruit and vegetables masks on the fourth day of the series. Through the ‘Mask Day’ activities, they learnt about the names of many fruits and vegetables in a constructive learning approach. The final day consisted of a talk on what constitutes a healthy diet. The students were told about the benefits of healthy eating and also about the various health benefits associated with various food items. Students listened with rapt attention as the teachers explained how healthy eating keeps the eyes healthy, supports muscles, boosts up the immune system and strengthens bones.

Speaking about the event, Coordinator in Charge Ms Deepti Kaushal stated, “To put it simply, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and following a good nutritious diet are all about healthy living. In this drive of ‘Healthy Week’, students were made to understand the importance of healthy eating habits through experiential learning. It was a decent success, and I am happy students are motivated to inculcate the learnings in their lives.”
