CBSE sets August 31 deadline for Direct Admissions and Subject Changes in Classes 10 & 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important update for the 2025–26 academic session: all direct admissions and subject-change requests for Classes 10 and 12 must be completed by August 31, 2025. After this date, no schools will be permitted to accept such applications, underscoring the need for timely compliance.

What Schools Must Do

  • By August 31, 2025: Schools should finalise all direct admissions and subject changes.
  • By September 2, 2025: Prepare and send a tabular record (separate for Class 10 and Class 12 cases) along with supporting documents to the relevant CBSE Regional Office.
  • By September 15, 2025: Regional offices will process and approve these requests based on CBSE’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Special Exception for Government Transfers

Students whose parents—serving in government roles—move and seek admission after August 31 are a rare exception. In such cases, schools must forward their requests to the concerned Regional Office within two working days of admission, using Harkara or similar official channels.

Emphasis on Strict Compliance

CBSE has made it clear: No cases of direct admission or subject change will be entertained after August 31, 2025, underlining that principals and school heads bear full responsibility for meeting the deadline and following procedures meticulously.
