To nurture a love for poetry and build oratory confidence in young learners, Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, recently hosted an Inter-house English Poem Recitation Competition for students of Classes III to VI. The event was a lively celebration of rhythm, language, and expression, aimed at enhancing the students’ communication skills while encouraging their creative instincts.

The competition brought together students from different houses to showcase their talent through the recitation of carefully chosen poems. Participants confidently took to the stage, presenting verses with passion, clarity, and emotive delivery. Their performances reflected not only a strong understanding of poetic themes but also their ability to connect with the audience through gestures, expressions, and modulation.

The competition was designed to be more than just a contest — it was an opportunity for students to overcome stage fright and develop a love for English literature. Teachers and peers served as a supportive audience, making the environment encouraging and cheerful.

Themes that inspired and engaged

Each participant brought something unique to the stage. The variety in themes — ranging from nature, imagination, and childhood adventures to patriotism and emotions — kept the audience engaged throughout. Every performance was a vibrant mix of enthusiasm, creativity, and confidence.

The judges appreciated the confidence, voice modulation, and memorisation skills displayed by the students. They had the tough task of selecting winners from a pool of highly impressive performances.

Winners who stood out

After a spirited round of recitations, the winners were announced in two categories: Classes V and VI: Mishti Saini (Ist prize), Saanvi Sharma (2nd prize), and Kyra (3rd prize). Classes III and IV: Bhanvi (1st prize, Bhurvee (2nd prize, and Aarav Klair (3rd prize). These students were lauded for their clarity of speech, expressive delivery, and overall presentation.

Ms Priyanka Grover, the Officiating Principal, congratulated all the participants and expressed her delight at the talent displayed. She encouraged students to continue exploring literature and take part in such enriching experiences.

The event concluded on a high note with cheers and appreciation for the efforts of all students. The competition celebrated poetry and helped build confidence, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for language.
