Whether it is the teacher-student ratio in class or children’s personal development, Apeejay Rama Mandi takes care of it all, says Balpreet Singh, mother of Yashjeet Singh, a student of class 9. In an interview, the mother, who is a teacher in a government primary school, says she is very happy with the way her daughter has progressed. Edited excerpts:

How did you decide to enroll Yashjeet in Apeejay School, Rama Mandi?

There was no other reputed school in the vicinity. Before Yashjeet, my elder son Sahibjot, who completed schooling in 2019, was enrolled in Apeejay Rama Mandi. My son’s experience was very good—the school provided a fine balance between academics and co-curricular activities. Instead of overburdening students, the school focuses on their all-round development. Impressed with the school, we enrolled our daughter too.

What co-curricular activities are they interested in?

My children are quite enthusiastic about games. They are excellent in dramatics.

What are some of the best aspects of Apeejay?

A school should not just be about studying but also allow students to express themselves and have fun. Apeejay does this very well. I am very happy with the way my children have evolved over the years. Second, I share a very good bond with the teachers. They are very cooperative.

Children’s safety is a very big concern for parents and Apeejay is one such school that keeps students away from any kind of nuisance, which also helps in personal development—social, emotional, and intellectual.

What skills have your children picked up?

I remember my son would have one-minute extempore sessions in their English class, which improved their spoken English. My children speak confidently. The teacher-student ratio is such that it guarantees one-to-one interactions. The teachers give personal attention to each student. Likewise, students do not hesitate to reach out to them when they need help. Their relationship is such that the students feel more comfortable opening up to their teachers than others.

My children are very good at academics as well. I have never pressured them about getting high marks. I believe in letting children grow at their own pace.

Now that Yashjeet is in class 9, are teachers focusing on clearing all concepts?

Absolutely, the teachers take good care of that. Through experiments, practical examples, etc, they make sure the students understand all concepts clearly.
